Can two particles stay linked across a lab or a continent? Entangla and Entanglo share one Bell state, (|00⟩ + |11⟩)/√2. Measure both in the same basis and the results always match, however far apart. Yet each result alone is random, so no message travels faster than light. Pixel-art black ceramic mug in 11 or 15 oz; equation, symbols and sources in the physics panel below.

The physics

Entangla and Entanglo are two qubits that share one state.

The state on this mug is a Bell state. Neither qubit has a value of its own. Measure both in the 0/1 basis and you get 00 half the time and 11 half the time, the second line, never 01 or 10. The results always match, however far apart the two are.

Matching alone could be faked with shared instructions, decided in advance. In 1935 Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen argued that quantum mechanics must be missing exactly such hidden instructions. In 1964 John Bell showed that no such instructions can reproduce the quantum predictions when the partners choose among different measurement settings. Experiments from the 1970s and 1980s onward, culminating in loophole-free tests in 2015, sided with quantum mechanics. Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger shared the 2022 Nobel Prize.

NO SIGNAL. STILL IN SYNC. Each result alone is a fair coin toss, whatever the partner does, so nothing can be sent this way, let alone faster than light. And in sync means correlated outcomes, not linked motion: the matching shows up only when the two compare notes.

Entangla and Entanglo never talk. They never need to.
