∂ The physics
Entropy Echo is not winning. They are just more likely.
Ludwig Boltzmann's answer to why heat spreads out is a counting argument, and it is carved on his grave in Vienna in the form Max Planck later gave it: \(S = k \log W\). It is the first line on this page. The entropy of a state is Boltzmann's constant times the logarithm of Ω, the number of microscopic arrangements that look identical from outside.
Try it with 100 coins. There is exactly one way for all of them to be heads. There are about 10²⁹ ways to have fifty heads and fifty tails. Shake the box and you will almost always find something near fifty-fifty, not because the coins prefer it but because nearly all the arrangements look like that. A teaspoon of air holds not 100 molecules but around 10²⁰, and the lopsidedness becomes so extreme that "almost always" can no longer be told apart from "always". That is the second law read Boltzmann's way: not a prohibition, but odds that are never beaten in practice.
The constant k converts the count into Clausius's units, joules per kelvin. Since 2019 its value has been fixed exactly, 1.380649 × 10⁻²³ J/K, as part of the definition of the kelvin.
Stretch the odds over the whole universe and you reach the idea Echo is named for, the heat death: a far future in which everything has spread to one temperature and no differences are left to run anything. It is the standard long-run expectation, not a measured fact. It depends on how gravity, black holes and the expansion of the universe count in the ledger, and those questions are not settled.
Echo does not hurry. Every pixel that leaves them leaves for the many more ways to be elsewhere.
