Expulsieur
Meissner Effect / Flux Expulsion Physics
Expulsieur is a Pixelated Physics law character, one of our quantum designs. Meissner effect: below its critical point a type-I superconductor pushes out a weak magnetic field, even field already in. This is a 3" × 3" pixel-art sticker. The physics panel below gives the equation, what each symbol means and the sources.

The physics
A superconductor expels magnetic field from its interior, which a merely perfect conductor would not do. The field only penetrates a thin layer, dying away exponentially over the London penetration depth.
Equations
| Symbol | Meaning | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| \(\mathbf{B}_{\text{inside}}\) | magnetic field in the bulk of the superconductor (applied field below the critical field) | \(\mathrm{T}\) |
| \(B(x)\) | field at depth x below the surface | \(\mathrm{T}\) |
| \(B_0\) | field at the surface | \(\mathrm{T}\) |
| \(x\) | depth below the surface | \(\mathrm{m}\) |
| \(\lambda_L\) | London penetration depth | \(\mathrm{m}\) |
| \(m\) | electron mass | \(\mathrm{kg}\) |
| \(\mu_0\) | vacuum magnetic permeability | \(\mathrm{N/A^2}\) |
| \(n_s\) | density of superconducting electrons (conventions differ by a factor of 2) | \(\mathrm{m^{-3}}\) |
| \(e\) | elementary charge | \(\mathrm{C}\) |
