Quavo & Lia: Entangled Twins / Quantum Connection
Quantum Foundations arc, page 3 of 193. Back to The Pixelated Physics Universe
Who they are
Each twin alone is pure chance. Together they always disagree. In the spin singlet, measurements along any common axis are always opposite, yet each spin on its own is exactly fifty-fifty, so no message passes. Bell showed in 1964 that no preset instructions can explain the correlations. Quavo & Lia on a pixel-art unisex tee; equation, symbols and sources in the panel below.
Quavo & Lia is a character of the Quantum Foundations arc: drawn in pixels, ruled by one piece of real physics, and never allowed to break it.
The physics
In the singlet state, two spins always come out opposite when measured along the same axis, yet each one on its own is completely random. The pair has a definite joint state while neither particle has a state of its own: that is entanglement.
$$ \begin{gathered} \lvert\Psi^{-}\rangle = \tfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\left(\lvert\uparrow\downarrow\rangle - \lvert\downarrow\uparrow\rangle\right) \\ \rho_B = \operatorname{Tr}_A\lvert\Psi^{-}\rangle\langle\Psi^{-}\rvert = \tfrac{1}{2}\mathbb{1} \end{gathered} $$
| Symbol | Meaning | SI unit |
|---|---|---|
| $\lvert\Psi^{-}\rangle$ | spin-singlet state of two particles | 1 |
| $\rho_B$ | reduced density matrix of particle B | 1 |
| $\operatorname{Tr}_A$ | partial trace over particle A | — |
| $\mathbb{1}$ | identity | 1 |

Crossovers
Quavo & Lia meets Reflexia (Nonlocal Mirror / Quantum Nonlocality). Quavo and Lia always give opposite answers along a shared axis. Reflexia shows the stronger result: across different axes, their correlations break Bell's inequality, so no local hidden plan could produce them. Still, neither twin can use this to send a message.
Quavo & Lia meets Triumvira (GHZ State). Quavo and Lia need statistics, many runs of a Bell test, to beat a local theory. Triumvira's three sisters, sharing a GHZ state, can make the point with a single kind of perfect correlation that no local assignment of answers can match.
